Freedom Portfolio

 

The Freedom Portfolio is a flexible General Investment Account (GIA) wrapper for a range of different investments such as unit trusts, OEICs, exchange traded funds, equities and bonds. The Freedom Portfolio is a completely open choice investment product, offering flexibility at low cost.

 

All investments carry an element of risk which may differ significantly. If you are unsure as to the suitability of any particular investment or product you should seek professional financial advice.

 

Who can use it?

The Freedom Portfolio is open to UK residents who have a National Insurance number.

Please note we do not accept applications from individuals who are US persons for tax compliance purposes.

 

Can I consolidate my savings from other GIAs?

Yes, we will be pleased to provide you with assistance to consolidate your investments into one Freedom Portfolio. We recommend that before doing so you seek financial advice.

 

Are there limits on how much I can contribute?

There is no limit to the maximum investment you can make into your Freedom Portfolio. The minimum investment to set up a Freedom Portfolio is £5,000 and the minimum investment per fund or security is £1,000.

Note that regular monthly payments are not available for shares in investment trusts, equities and gilts.

 

Is there a limit to the size of fund I can build up?

No, there is no limit to the size of fund you can build in a Freedom Portfolio.

Please remember the value of your investments and any income from them can go down as well as up and you may get back less than the amount you originally invested.

 

What investments are allowed?

The Freedom Portfolio offers you a huge range of investments to choose from – consisting of any of the UK’s best-performing OEICs, unit trusts, investment trusts and ETFs through to UK equities, gilts and warrants. Please note that you cannot subscribe to investment trust shares or equities on a monthly basis through the Freedom Portfolio.

Note that regular monthly payments are not available for shares in investment trusts, equities and gilts.

 

Where are these investments held?

All assets in your Freedom Portfolio are held for your benefit by our nominee company, Avalon Investments Services (Nominees) Limited.

 

How do I get my money out?

At any time you can either partially encash your account, or close your account and withdraw your full balance or transfer your investments to another account. If you require a regular income it can be taken quarterly, half-yearly or annually. If you partially encash your account the minimum payment is £500 and you must have at least £2,500 remaining in your account (minimum £1,000 in any one holding).

 

Is it tax-efficient?

The Freedom Portfolio will be subject to income tax and Capital Gains Tax on investment income and growth respectively. Your financial adviser will be able to give you detailed advice on the tax treatment of your investments, which depends on your personal circumstances.

 

Who administers my plan?

Your plan will be administered at our offices in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. We provide a friendly and personable service where you can speak directly to the team managing your plan.

Is the Freedom Portfolio suitable for me?

Avalon is the administrator of your plan. We are not authorised financial advisers and cannot provide you with advice about your investments. No, we only work with authorised financial advisers so we can be sure your investments are right for you.
